The Syracuse Greens believe that a just society provides equal opportunity for all its members. We stand against all forms of discrimination and work to dismantle the systems of oppression that perpetuate inequality. Social justice is not separate from our environmental and economic goals - it is fundamental to them.
Racial Equity
Syracuse has a long history with racial inequality, from segregated neighborhoods to disparities in education, employment, and criminal justice. We support policies that directly address these inequities and create genuine opportunity for all residents regardless of race or ethnicity.
Systemic racism requires systemic solutions. We advocate for anti-racist policies in housing, education, criminal justice, and economic development. According to social science research, addressing racial disparities benefits entire communities, not just those most directly affected.
Workers Rights
Workers deserve fair wages, safe conditions, and the right to organize. We support strengthening labor unions, raising the minimum wage to a living wage, and protecting workers from exploitation. The growing inequality in our economy threatens democracy itself.
We oppose right-to-work laws and other attacks on organized labor. Strong unions historically have been essential to building a middle class and ensuring that economic gains are broadly shared.
LGBTQ+ Equality
All people deserve to live free from discrimination regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We support full legal equality for LGBTQ+ individuals including protections in employment, housing, and public accommodations.
Beyond legal protections, we work to create a culture of acceptance and celebration of diversity. Everyone should be able to live openly and authentically without fear of harassment or violence.
Disability Rights
People with disabilities face barriers to full participation in society that must be removed. We support strong enforcement of accessibility laws, expansion of community-based services, and full inclusion of people with disabilities in education and employment.
Disability rights are human rights. A society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members, and we are committed to ensuring dignity and opportunity for all.
Immigration Justice
Immigrants enrich our communities and deserve to be treated with dignity. We oppose family separation, mass detention, and deportation policies that tear communities apart. We support pathways to citizenship and welcoming policies for refugees and asylum seekers.
Syracuse has historically been a city of immigrants, and that heritage should be honored. Our diversity is a source of strength, not something to be feared.
