Syracuse Greens is the Onondaga County affiliate of the Green Party of New York State, working to advance progressive politics and ecological sustainability in Central New York. Since our founding, we have been a voice for citizens who believe that our political system should serve people and planet, not corporate interests.
Our History
The Green movement in Syracuse has deep roots in community activism and environmental advocacy. Our chapter emerged from a tradition of citizen engagement that has long characterized Central New York politics. Over the years, we have run candidates for local, state, and national office, organized community forums, and advocated for policy changes that reflect our values.
Our efforts have contributed to important victories and raised awareness about issues often ignored by mainstream political parties. From fighting for environmental protections to advocating for electoral reform, Syracuse Greens has been at the forefront of progressive change in our region.
What We Stand For
As Greens, we believe that democracy must be participatory and that citizens should have direct input into the decisions that affect their lives. We reject the influence of big money in politics and work to build a political system that is truly representative of all people.
Our approach to politics is fundamentally different from the two major parties. We do not accept corporate donations or PAC money. Our candidates are accountable only to the voters and the principles of the Green movement.
Our Community
Syracuse Greens brings together environmentalists, social justice advocates, labor activists, students, and concerned citizens from all backgrounds. What unites us is a shared commitment to building a better future through grassroots action.
We believe that real change comes from the bottom up. That is why we focus on empowering ordinary citizens to become leaders in their communities. Through education, organizing, and electoral action, we work to transform politics one neighborhood at a time.
Our Structure
Syracuse Greens operates as a democratic organization where every member has an equal voice. Our coordinating committee provides leadership and direction, but major decisions are made by the membership as a whole. This commitment to internal democracy reflects our vision for society.
We hold regular membership meetings open to all interested citizens. These gatherings provide opportunities to discuss issues, plan campaigns, and build community among Greens and allies.
